Albert landed an internship in Yanmar Europe

In February we told you about the 8 bachelor and 3 master students we were supervising from the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL). One of these students were Albert Gjørvad, who wrote his thesis on social acceptance of hydrogen. Little did he know that his thesis would land him an internship with Yanmar Europe, based in the Netherlands.

Ocean Hyway Cluster has close connections to academia. As Assistant Head of Department, Mechanical and Marine Engineering at HVL, Velaug Myrseth Oltedal explains “Hydrogen technology is a rapidly developing field. For HVL it is important to collaborate closely with industry actors and clusters, to ensure that the education and training we offer is relevant and updated”. On the flipside, students are fresh to the topic/industry and brings many ideas that the industry might not consider themselves.

Albert, meet Yanmar

The cluster team tries to stay updated on job openings within the membership base, and it was through such a “scan” that we got in touch with Eric Tigerlar in Yanmar, who said they might have an opportunity for a student internship. We contacted the student group we had been supervising this year and found that Albert Gjørvad was interested and would be a good candidate for the Yanmar internship. We connected the two and they agreed on the terms.

I was very interested in starting an internship for Yanmar, as it provides me with valuable work experience. Particularly since it focused on hydrogen technology, which was the topic of my bachelor thesis. I’m sure this will be positive for my CV and help me further in my career, says Albert Gjørvad

Yanmar is very happy with the support of Ocean Highway Cluster in Norway. We appreciated to study more about Hydrogen developments in Norway. Thanks to the efforts and network of Ocean Highway Cluster, we could get in touch with the right person for such assignment. We are much grateful for the good support and close co-operation between all parties. Working with Albert Gjørvad is a pleasure, and we experience he is flexible and fully committed. We are looking forward to his final presentation in October, Eric Tigerlar in Yanmar Europe.

Is your company interested in getting in touch with bachelor or master students? If you have a topic you wish to investigate, a bachelor or master thesis could be of great help. Please be in touch if you have any questions.
