Enova supports 15 hydrogen projects in maritime transport
Enova announced the 15 pre-projects that gets support through funding for hydrogen projects in maritime transport. 5 of the supported projects are developed by businesses in the cluster!
Background
The funding scheme was published in June with an application deadline of 15. September, and aims to contribute to mature hydrogen hub projects to realize cost-efficient green hydrogen production. The hydrogen will primarily be publicly availably for maritime transport in Norway but could also be accessible for other industries.
“The funding will provide the actors time to explore the foundation of the market and examine technical and financial solutions to make green hydrogen available in the maritime sector”, says Nils Kristian Nakstad, CEO of Enova.
1/3 of the supported projects are in the cluster
Enova has assessed each project by looking at quality, maturity, and feasibility. They received a total of 29 applications where 15 of them received funding. The projects are scattered around Norway, with a goal to achieve 2 – 4 hubs for maritime hydrogen along the coast.
Statkraft AS, Trønder Energi, Norwegian Hydrogen AS, HyFuel AS and Hydrogen Storage AS (a joint venture between Sunnfjord Kraftlag AS and cluster member Liquiline) are the projects from the cluster to receive funding. The 5 projects are looking at establishing hydrogen hubs in their designated area.
HyFuel
HyFuel AS is a joint venture between INC Invest (Fjord Base), Sogn og Fjordane Energi and Gasnor. HyFuel aim to produce sustainable green hydrogen at Fjord Base. They will develop, own, and operate a plant for producing hydrogen and hydrogenation of Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC).
Over the past months, Ocean Hyway Cluster has worked closely with the HyFuel team to support them in the application process. In the pre-projects, we will contribute with market information and provide an analysis of the market situation and customer base for hydrogen production.
Larger competition in December
Enova will announce a larger competition for financial support for hydrogen production in December. Projects that did apply for pilot project support can also apply for funding. Enova will grant a maximum of 150 million NOK for each project and expects to grant funding to approximately 2 – 4 projects.
