Get to know Sarah
In mid-September, Sarah joined the Ocean Hyway Cluster team as a trainee in communication and event coordination.
Originally from Tromsø, Sarah moved to Florø straight from the classroom in Oslo. After living in Florø for just over a month, we are excited to introduce you to our northern Norwegian addition.
What was it about the position at Ocean Hyway Cluster that attracted you to move to Florø?
Like most nearing the end of their studies, I spent a lot of time thinking about where to start my career. I began applying for jobs in Oslo but quickly realized that the competition was tough, especially since I didn’t have much work experience in marketing and communication.
One day, I came across an advertisement on Instagram about trainee positions through Framtidsfylket Vestland. I clicked in to read more about the program and immediately thought this could be something for me. It was actually through this trainee program that I found the position at Ocean Hyway Cluster.
Even though I didn’t have much knowledge about the hydrogen industry, the position at Ocean Hyway Cluster quickly piqued my interest. I have been involved in a peace organization since childhood, where one of the main focuses is sustainable development. Sustainability is something I am truly passionate about, and I felt this was an opportunity to contribute in a new way.
My grandfather was the telecommunications chief in Sogn and Fjordane from 1983 to 1992 and lived in Førde until 2000. So I have grown up with stories from my grandparents about both Førde, Florø, and the rest of the old Sogn and Fjordane. Additionally, I have lived in eight different cities across three different countries, so if I found a job through the trainee program that suited me, I was more than willing to move to Vestlandet. Therefore, I applied for the trainee position at Ocean Hyway Cluster, and when I received the job offer five days after submitting my exam, it was an easy choice to say yes!
What are you most looking forward to in your new role here at Ocean Hyway Cluster?
I find it incredibly fun to work creatively and think outside the box. This is something I really get the opportunity to do in this job. Even though I have only been here for one month, I have already noticed how open my colleagues are to new ideas and thoughts, and how good they are at challenging both me and each other to think differently. I enjoy working with communication and look forward to learning more about the various ways we can reach out to our network.
Additionally, I’m really excited to learn more about the hydrogen industry. We have many exciting member within the cluster, and the members are involved in many varied and interesting projects. I look forward to getting to know both the member companies and their projects better. I’m a curious person who loves acquiring new knowledge, and there’s a patient and helpful team here that willingly takes the time to answer my questions and explain the overall context of what we are working on.
Event coordination is also an exciting part of my position. This is something I haven’t had experience with before, but I enjoy planning and like to dive into details. It’s incredibly fun to see how planning is conducted in a professional context.
You’ve been living in Florø for a month now, have you found a favorite spot?
We recently ate at Knutholmen in connection with The Maritime Hydrogen Conference, and it was a magical place. It’s incredibly charming with all the fishermen's cabins and the gallery they have there, and the food was simply fantastic!
What is something you look forward to experiencing or exploring in Florø?
I look forward to exploring the islands around Florø and have big plans to do that as soon as we get a weekend with nice weather.
I also look forward to building a network here in Florø and hopefully being shown some “hidden gems” around town that I might not have found on my own.
Do you have an interesting fun fact about yourself that would surprise us?
I have been to 60 countries in my life, thanks to my adventurous and travel-loving family back in Tromsø! <3
