Insights from the Hannover Messe 2024
This week at Hannover Messe, the world’s largest industrial fairs, our colleague Martin had the privilege of delving into the emerging hydrogen revolution, together with some of our members and the rest of Team Norway.
The official opening ceremony, adorned by the presence of Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, set an optimistic tone for the future of hydrogen collaboration between Norway and Germany. Their key messages were important, and positive, for the development of hydrogen in Europe: it will come, let there be no doubt about it! CCS will be an important part of succeeding with the green transition, and Europe will do whatever they can to reach the ambitions.
As a cluster it is very encouraging to hear the words cooperation, collaboration, openness and innovation so many times from the top political leaders in Europe.
Minister Habeck’s call for cooperation between Norway and Germany was clear to Norway and Minister Aasland through the Renewable Dialogue – North Sea Energy Hub. And what is better then than signing agreements between our two countries for moving forward in the decarbonisation and the development of the hydrogen value chain in Europe.
Ambitious plans in Romania
Martin had also the pleasure of participating at the Energy Forum – Sustainable Opportunities in Romania, hosted by the EEA grants and Innovation Norway, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian Secretary of State for Energy, Mr. Dan Dragan.
Mr. Dragan introduced the ambitious plans within the renewable sector in Romania, where hydrogen will play a vital role. A hydrogen strategy will be approved by the end of 2024, as well as an action plan for the implementation of it.
Romania aims to be a producer of green hydrogen from their renewable resources, and is focusing on developing the entire value chain, from production to infrastructure investments, training and education, and of course the end use in hard-to abate sectors.
Together with other leading key players from both Norway and Romania within hydrogen, CCS, offshore wind and geothermal, Martin discussed the latest from the hydrogen sector, especially the maritime part of the value chain in Norway.
