Hydrogen Dialogue with Norwegian Government and Ministry
There is a strong Norwegian focus on maritime use of hydrogen. Several projects are developing and materializing. January 13th selected industry and other relevant players meet Ola Elvestuen, Minister of Climate and Environment, in Bergen in a meeting arranged by Norsk klimastiftelse. Discussions will be on how to decarbonize shipping in the Norwegian fjords. The Norwegian Government has already stated that the Norwegian World Heritage Fjords shall be zero emission from 2026. How shall we proceed to reach that goal and also include the other Norwegian fjords and coast line?
Trond Strømgren, Head of R&D in Ocean Hyway Cluster, takes part in the meeting. He focuses on the industrial approach and the need for one or more hydrogen vessels operation in national defines pilot routes. Anstein Aa, Technical Manager at high speed passenger vessel designer and shipbuilder Brødrene Aa, will make a speech to inform the minister about possibilities and challenges regarding zero emission shipping and how to develop the best solutions for passenger vessels.
On January 14th Stein Kvalsund, CEO in Ocean Hyway Cluster, and Trond Strømgren will have a meeting in Oslo with representatives from the Minister of Trade and Industry. Important question to be discussed is cross sectoral and ministerial collaboration to achieve development of technical hydrogen solutions for passenger vessels. Pilot routes for high speed vessels are needed in order to build the first vessels and gain operational experience. Such experience will be of great value for the upcoming commercial routes based on hydrogen.
