Ocean Hyway Cluster releases its new Global Maritime Hydrogen Database

New interface and 115 vessels - Do you know where they all are? Find out here!

In total there are 115 different vessels ranging from concept study to sailing around the world. There does not exist a more detailed overview of maritime hydrogen initiatives than here.

In 2021, many climate targets were strengthened around the world to make limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels the target. In the maritime sector, these targets have spurred both governments and private sector into action. We have witnessed a rapid acceleration in new project announcements all around the world over the last 12 months.

More than doubling every year

In December 2019 there were 22 vessels in our database, this had increased to 50 in 2020, and reaching now 115.

Heat-map of maritime hydrogen vessel initiatives

87 concept studies, 19 vessels under construction, 9 vessels sailing

The first hydrogen vessels are already making green waves, but much larger ships are soon going to be hitting the water. Watch this summary that Mark Purkis made for our Maritime Hydrogen and Marine Energy Conference.

Hydrogen and hydrogen carriers:

The map includes vessel initiatives that use the following fuels:

  • Hydrogen (compressed and liquid)

  • Ammonia

  • Onboard methanol – reforming

  • Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier

  • Metal Hydride

The latest update of the interactive map shows hydrogen vessel initiatives around the world broken down by project stage:

  • Concept and feasibility study

  • Construction and demonstration

  • Sailing.

The new map provides a unique opportunity for members to get an overview of all hydrogen vessel projects around the world right now.

Exclusive access to members of Ocean Hyway Cluster

A heat-map of the projects is publicly available on OHC’s website, click here. Sign in to "Members' Area" for the vessel map with the detailed information.

Under continuous development

The map and database are under continuous development - do you know of a project that is missing, see an error, or have any other feedback? We would love to hear from you!
