Ro Vision Ship of the Year 2020

In tough competition against the other nominees, the world's first hybrid live fish carrier (LFC has received the award for Ship of the Year 2020. - The LFC fleet continues to move forward, and this year's winner shows that it is committing to lower emissions and increased safety, says Minister of Fisheries and Seafood Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen.

This year's Ship of the Year has a hybrid propulsion solution and is equipped with the latest technology for this type of ship, says the jury leader, editor-in-chief of Skipsrevyen Gustav-Erik Blaalid. "Ro Vison" will set the standard for the company's new builds. Looking forward, it could be of interest to rebuild existing vessels according to this standard. Thus, the total environmental benefit will be even greater, says Blaalid. Furthermore, the award is a great recognition to the LFC industry, which has driven Norwegian ship technology and design to world leading status, says Blaalid.

The story of Ro Vision

The story of Ro Vision goes back to the pioneer Ro Arctic, which was the first LFC vessel based on the “LFC2020” design. The project was an Innovation Norway-supported project with the goal to develop the next generation of LFCs. In all the projects in the vessel series “LFC2020”, the collaboration with the shipping company and shipyard has been the recipe for success.

The winner of Ship of the Year 2020 began its life in 2018 with a goal learning ever more from the knowledge gained from the building and operation of the sister ships. The ship was lengthened, and it was decided to replace a generator set with a battery pack of approx. 600 kWh. The battery pack ensures that the load peaks are met and therefore in several cases it is possible to manage with fewer generator sets in operation.
