Ocean Hyway Cluster is excited to welcome YANMAR EUROPE as a member of the hydrogen cluster.

YANMAR EUROPE is the regional headquarters of YANMAR CORPORATION LIMITED Japan. Established in 1989, they are located in Almere, near Amsterdam, in The Netherlands. From this central European location, they maintain and develop the sales and service networks for all YANMAR products and equipment and connect with customers across Europe, Russia, Africa and the Middle East. YANMAR EUROPE is also the shareholder of all YANMAR Group companies in Europe.


The Norwegian market challenges and motivates us

Eric Tigelaar, Department Manager of YANMAR Commercial Marine, tells Ocean Hyway Cluster they have exciting plans for the future.

- What is YANMAR EUROPE’s primary focus right now?

 “At YANMAR EUROPE, we are committed to YANMAR’s corporate mission to provide customers in our region with optimal solutions for harnessing the power and producing food, two of the most important challenges facing the world today. We achieve this with innovative technology, targeted products and services, and reliable support, training and assistance”, Eric Tigelaar explains. “For commercial marine engines, the added value of our European location is an immediate availability of parts, European sales support team and a high degree of customisation of our high-speed engines incl. related after treatment systems”.

- Where is YANMAR positioned in the Norwegian market?

“YANMAR has a strong position in the leisure marine market and in the commercial shipping & fishing market in Norway. YANMAR Europe B.V. has delivered its 160th engine for the fishing industry in Scandinavian waters. More than 45 engines have already found their way into Norway through shipyard Larsnes Mek. Verksted AS”, says Eric Tigelaar. “A strong proof of the decades-long relationship and trust that exists between YANMAR and Norwegian shipbuilders, architects and shipowners. The Norwegian fishing industry is known for its innovative strength and adoption of the latest technology”.

The Norwegian market is extremely important for Yanmar, Eric Tigelaar highlights: “We are very fortunate and grateful to have such strong relationships in Norway. The advanced know-how and capabilities within Norwegian aquaculture and fisheries are extremely important for YANMAR. The Norwegian market challenges and motivates us to find solutions and further develop our marine engines, so that we are able to meet the expectations of our customers not only in Norway, but also worldwide”.

- What are the biggest challenges and opportunities for YANMAR EUROPE in the future?

“To find the right solutions for power generation to reduce CO2 for marine and industrial applications”, says Eric Tigelaar.


-  Why did you decide on becoming a member of Ocean Hyway Cluster? What do you hope to get out of the membership?

“Norway is one of leading countries to develop solutions to reduce CO2 / NOx emissions. By joining we’d like to learn latest developments, share our progress and participate in these developments”, Tigelaar ends.
