KSP MaritimeNH3
This is the competence development part of Ammonia Fuel Bunkering Network project. For the industry part, go to Ammonia Fuel Bunkering Network.
The goal is to develop and disseminate knowledge that will contribute to solving technical challenges and safety issues in the value chain for ammonia as a fuel in ships. This includes the design and use of ammonia-powered engines and fuel cells.
Laboratory experiments and modelling will be used to improve the life of fuel cells and the efficiency of engine combustion. New models will be developed for simulation of ammonia dispersion, which will make it possible to improve the safety measures for bunker terminals with ammonia.
Methods for techno-economic analysis and greenhouse gas assessments of the entire value chain for ammonia will also be developed. This will support decision makers in the coming green transition.
All results will be made publicly available for the fastest possible realization of ammonia as a maritime fuel.
Milestones:
2023, February: published the article Ammonia - from cleaning product to maritime fuel.
2021, September: The KSP was granted NOK 23 million (EUR 2,300,000) through the Norwegian Green Platform Initiative.
Project Partners
The project is financed through the governments Green Platform Initiative.
