3 good reasons why we have joined the Green Shipping Programme!

Ocean Hyway Cluster has joined the Green Shipping Programme (Grønt skipsfartsprogram). The programme's vision for Norway is to establish the world's most efficient and environmentally friendly shipping.

Green Shipping Programme (GSP) is a partnership programme between private and public actors. The programme will be an effective tool for implementing the government's strategies and plans. In January 2021 the programme counted 61 private companies and organizations as well as 10 government observers. The Green Shipping Programme is financed partly by public allocations from the state budget and partly by the members themselves. GSP is central to realize green pilot projects. Since the programme started in 2015 32 pilots have been realized.

3 good reasons

Kristin Svardal, Project Manager in Ocean Hyway Cluster (OHC) is excited to be joining the Green Shipping Programme: “We and GSP share the same goal – we eager to make shipping more efficient and environmentally friendly. There are particular 3 reasons why participation in the programme is important for us:

1) Spread the knowledge: We want to learn from the already established pilots and spread the knowledge of best practice to our 60 OHC-members in the hydrogen value chain. The projects have gained a lot of experience in terms of safety, regulations, technology, and financial aspects that are highly relevant for our members. We also want to share knowledge from OHC projects and our network with the other organizations in GSP.

2) Be a part of future pilots: OHC and multiple member companies have a shared goal of being a part of GSP’s pilots in the future.

3) Insights from other sectors: To have a well-functioning hydrogen infrastructure in Norway it is important to create hubs where different types of end-users can refuel. OHC has already been mapping the future demand for the maritime industry through the HyInfra project. We hope to gain a deeper knowledge of the needs of other end users through the Green Shipping Programme.”
