Norwegian Hydrogen acquires Aker Horizons' hydrogen project in Rjukan
Norwegian Hydrogen has firmly established itself as a leading producer of green hydrogen, with operational facilities in Norway and Denmark serving a diverse range of industrial customers across the Nordics. The company is actively developing several promising new projects. The company has now acquired Aker Horizons' hydrogen project in Rjukan. As part of the agreement, Aker Horizons has the option to re-enter as an investor and active partner in the project at a later stage.
Long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) in place
Norwegian Hydrogen takes over an existing long-term power purchase agreement with Tinn Energi, ensuring the project has access to renewable energy under terms which create a good foundation for delivering competitive hydrogen to the market.
Capacity and opportunities for large-scale development
Norwegian Hydrogen plans on building 25 MW plant, positioning it as one of the largest hydrogen projects in the Nordics. In the somewhat longer term, the project also offer potential for further upscaling and expansion.
Letter of Intent with Nel
Norwegian Hydrogen has entered into a letter of intent (LOI) with Nel for the delivery of a pressurized alkaline electrolysis plant for the project. Nel previously received support from the EU Innovation Fund to develop this type of technology.
Rjukan: a central hub for the green transition
Norwegian Hydrogen builds on the solid foundation that Aker Horizons established in Rjukan, to produce clean and sustainable hydrogen for industrial customers across the Nordics. This includes deliveries to several industrial segments that demand innovative and sustainable energy solutions.
"We are very pleased to be able to take over this exciting project," says Jens Berge, CEO of Norwegian Hydrogen. "This acquisition provides us with an excellent opportunity to enhance our commitment and deliver innovative zero-emission solutions to both existing and new customers. At the same time, we look forward to realizing the project and contributing to the green transition in close cooperation with local stakeholders".
Local collaboration
Norwegian Hydrogen is already actively engaged in every part of the project and look forward to collaborating even more with local authorities, communities, and a broad customer base to realize the project. The company will share more updates on progress in the near future. This acquisition is part of the company's long-term goal of creating a sustainable and competitive value chain for green hydrogen in the Nordics.
