HyAqua - future vessels for fishing and aquaculture

How will the future zero-emission vessels in the fisheries and aquaculture look like? That is what the project HyAqua aims to find out. The goal of the project is to create a minimum of 1 pilot vessel on hydrogen in fisheries and aquaculture.

Ocean Hyway Cluster and its member companies will in 2021 work on the project HyAqua. HyAqua will look at zero-emission solutions for vessels relevant for aquaculture and fishery, including well boats, feed boats, fishing vessels and service vessels. These players are involved in the project as of now:

  • Ship designers: Skipskompetanse, Naval Consult and Multi Maritime

  • The research institute SINTEF Ocean

  • Initiator and coordinator Ocean Hyway Cluster

    Background

Approximately 95% of the seafood caught or produced in Norway goes to export markets in about 130 countries*. The Norwegian fish is in strong competition with fish from other nations. Customers worldwide show a growing interest to the carbon footprint on the fish. As Ocean Hyway Cluster sees is it, development of zero-emission vessels is key to creating a sustainable future and making sure Norway can deliver fish with low emissions in the future. The HyAqua project can also contribute to developing hydrogen technology and new vessel designs with large global export potential. *Source: Sjømatalliansen
