Green Destination Vestland

In the project «Green Destination Vestland», Ocean Hyway Cluster will - together with members and other business actors - study the potential for green maritime tourism in Vestland county. «Green Destination Vestland» will have a holistic approach that involves both the technical and commercial / market aspects that are needed for the realisation of sustainable maritime tourism in Vestland.

Milestones

  • Destinasjon Green Vestland secured 395.000 NOK through Vestland county council’s “Handlingsprogram for innovasjon og næringsutvikling I Vestland 2021” in Desember 2021.

  • Report delivered to Vestland county council in september 2022. The report is available for our members through members’ area, however the report summary is publicly available.

Background

Western Norway is perfectly suited for green tourism. Its geography is the key, with unique nature, sandwiched between the fjord and the mountains. Not least that Vestland country is the largest producer of renewable energy (hydro and wind power) in Norway. Cruises and day trips on the fjords are an essential part of the tourist offer, and there is a need for stimulation and transition to meet future requirements to position the industry for the future.

Through the HyInfra project, OHC has identified Vestland as the county in Norway with the greatest potential for maritime H2 projects. A mapping of the future hydrogen demand from the tourist sector is sorely needed.

OHC has mapped three sub-projects that “Green Destination Vestland” will focus on:

  • H2 Fjord Cruise

  • Green Destination Flåm

  • Askøy in collaboration with Kildn
