Cluster Catch-up: Greensight

“Efficient utilization of available resources and successful project execution will rely on the ability to bring together the right people with the right competence.”

Cluster Catch-up is a column where we ask our members 6 questions to catch a glimpse into their daily business life. In the last Cluster Catch-up, we talked with Jörgen Johnsson, Managing Director in EKtank AB, and how they are working on reducing the climate footprint of their business. One of the things he mentioned is collaboration, and how it is necessary to reach our common goals on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In this Cluster Catch-up, we spoke with Kjetil Tronvik Midthun, Manager in Greensight. Kjetil has a PhD in industrial economics from NTNU and has 11 years of experience as a Research Manager and Research Scientist in Sintef working primarily with optimization and techno-economic analyses within the energy sector.

What is Greensight’s primary focus right now?

Greensight is a consultancy focusing on renewable energy, and we are building one of the leading competence environments within green hydrogen-based energy solutions in Norway. We are passionate about providing knowledge that makes it easy to find the right emission-free solutions given the characteristics of each value-chain or business idea. Our methodology is based on combining technology insight and project execution experience with economic analysis and understanding of market mechanics and development. Currently, we are helping our clients with markets surveys, technology reviews and strategic planning and we are always looking for new interesting opportunities for discussing new business ideas or value-chain challenges.

What are the biggest challenges and opportunities for Greensight in the future?

There are many projects and initiatives within energy system changes in general, and hydrogen-based systems in particular at the moment. Efficient utilization of available resources and successful project execution will rely on the ability to bring together the right people with the right competence. We believe that there are ample opportunities for successful projects in the coming years, and we very much look forward to contributing and playing a role in this change.

How can hydrogen be a part of the solution for the future?

Hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels has the potential of playing a key role in emission-free energy systems. Given the flexibility, hydrogen has as an energy carrier it can integrate large sectors such as electricity, transport and heating. The contribution to emission reductions from hydrogen-based solutions in the transport sector can be substantial. It can also help integrate a larger amount of non-dispatchable energy sources (such as wind and solar) into the electricity system by providing the necessary flexibility in terms of varying loads and storage.

What is your primary focus when it comes to sustainability?

We are part of the Greenstat group who has the vision “Making green happen”. This is a strong motivator for us as a company, and we are passionate about finding solutions that has real impact in creating sustainable solutions at the same time as resources are spent in an efficient manner. We want to help companies make money while also making a real change towards a sustainable future.

Why did you decide on becoming a member of Ocean Hyway Cluster?

The maritime sector is one of the most promising and interesting sectors for developing solutions based on green fuels. As such, the Ocean Hyway Cluster provides a valuable meeting place and brings together key partners in this transition.

Which cluster member should we interview next?

We would like to send the challenge far north, to Varanger Krafthydrogen AS.
